General Questions

Snow Leopard Hostel is located in a quiet residential area of Karakol on Karasaeva Street, just a 15 minute walk from the town centre.

If you’re arriving by long-distance bus from Almaty, Naryn, or Bishkek, you’ll arrive at the North Bus Station (Avtovokzal), around a 25–30 minute walk from the hostel. For a smoother arrival, we recommend taking a Yandex taxi.

For shorter journeys, you’ll usually arrive at Ak-Tilek Bazaar, about a 20–25 minute walk away. From here, a quick Yandex taxi is the easiest option.

We accept both cash and card payments, though cash is preferred. We can take Kyrgyz som, and for larger payments such as trips, we also accept USD and EUR.

Yes, we can arrange border permits for travel within the Issyk-Kul region, including areas such as Enilchek, Karasay, and Ak-Shyraak. This service is available for an additional fee.

Accommodation & Stay

Check-in is available from 12pm onwards. If you arrive earlier, you’re welcome to leave your luggage and relax in the common area while we prepare your room.

Check-out is between 7am and 11am. If you need to leave earlier, just let us know and we’ll do our best to help.

Yes, absolutely. We offer free luggage storage for all our guests. Your belongings are kept in a secure area monitored by 24/7 CCTV.

Yes, all of our staff speak very good English. We also speak Russian, Kyrgyz, and Spanish, so communication is never a problem.

Breakfast is not included, but it’s available for an additional $2.50. Tea is always available throughout the day, and coffee can be purchased separately.

We offer a traditional, homemade Kyrgyz dinner upon request. As everything is freshly prepared, please let us know earlier in the day if you’d like to join.

Hostel Facilities

Yes, we offer a full laundry service for our guests, including washing, drying, and folding. Just let us know when you arrive.

Yes, our traditional banya is available for guests upon request for an additional fee. As it takes time to prepare, we recommend letting us know in advance so we can have it ready for you.

Yes, Wifi is available and free to use for all of our guests.

Yes, we have a spacious and secure driveway where guests travelling by car can park comfortably, both during the day and overnight.

Tours & Transfers

During the peak season, we highly recommend booking your tours in advance as availability can be limited.

That said, if you arrive without a booking, we’ll always do our best to arrange something for you.

Of course. Not everyone is looking for a guided trip, and we’re always happy to help with planning and logistics. Whether it’s organising transport to trailheads, offering local advice, or arranging permits, we’ll support you however we can.

We can help you every step of the way. We offer 4WD transport to the trailhead, can arrange yurt or guesthouse accommodation in Altyn Arashan, and can organise a mountain guide if you’d like extra support on the trail.

For longer, off-the-beaten-path adventures, we partner with Great Goat Expeditions, who specialise in remote wilderness trips across Central Asia. They offer both fixed departures and custom itineraries throughout the summer season.
